Any modern-day firefighter will tell you that second to responding quickly and safely to the scene of a building fire, securing a sustainable water source for fire suppression and rescue is of utmost importance. The West Bradford Fire Company is ever-mindful of the fact that in portions of our response area, residents are not protected by a dedicated hydrant system. It is imperative to our mission that we equip our fire engines and tanker truck with water and hose so we are ready to respond to these more challenging locations.

Each year the West Bradford Fire Company spends company funds to pressure test all of our hose to ensure that in an emergency, the fire hose will deliver the water at the proper pressure from the fire pump to the nozzle. Currently, the company carries 5,000 feet of 5 inch large diameter hose (LDH) on its apparatus to extend the reach of the hydrant water source to the engines for firefighting operations. Through our ongoing inspection process, we are becoming concerned that our (LDH) which is more than 20 years old is beginning to show signs of wear and tear that will affect our operational readiness.

In July of 2016 the WBFC applied for and received a FEMA grant to replace all of our aging large diameter hose. This grant award will assist the WBFC in being able to replace all 5,000 feet of existing LDH with new hose that is engineered with the latest technology and highest standards in the industry. Many hours of work behind the scenes were put into the grant and hose selection process.
