By Chief Jack Law III
February 5, 2018

While almost everyone's eyes were glued to the television, and the clock was ticking down, the last touchdown was made by the Philadelphia Eagles for the win, West Bradford Fire Co Volunteers were dispatched to Route 322 and Bradford Ave with MICU 46 for the automobile accident with entrapment. Upon the response of Chief 39 he advised the fire radio to make all units aware of extreme icy conditions. MICU 46 arrived on location to report one vehicle with all occupants out of the vehicle, the 39 units continued in at a reduced rate for hazard and traffic control. While we were all on scene the road conditions worsened, the passing motorists continued at high rates of speed past our incident. This resulted in another accident near our initial scene and sent the responders looking for cover as the second vehicle spun out of control and struck a fence and traffic sign coming to rest along the shoulder. Luckily everyone was OK, even after setting up road flares to warn of the hazards the motorists continued to speed by our scene. We were finally able to move everyone off the roadway and the fire apparatus was summoned to another accident at Shadyside Road and Yankee Drive. All in all there were at least 12 accidents within our district during a two hour period of which the fire company responded or investigated 5. We are seeking your assistance in that if you see emergency vehicles, (Fire, Fire Police, EMS, Police, Tow) operating at a emergency scene and their emergency lights are on Please Slow Down and if possible Move Over, as this is a Law in most states. At least once per week their is an emergency vehicle sitting at an emergency scene that is struck by another vehicle resulting in property damage, injury and death. We all have families to go home to and would like to go home safe.

Thank you
