As many of our area residents are aware, the West Bradford Twp area as well as some of our surrounding neighboring communities experienced heavy rain and winds on July 3rd. At approximately 6:30 pm July 3rd a strong line of storms moved through the area bringing heavy rain and high winds to parts of Chester County. The volunteers at West Bradford Fire Company began what would be a long list of emergency responses, including trees and wires fires, an electrical fire inside, trees and wires down blocking the roadways, automatic fire alarms, traffic control as well as an automobile accident. All total the company was dispatched and responded to 16 emergencies in a a short time frame and crews finished their night around 1:30 am July 4th. The crews received a few hours sleep before reporting to Downingtown to participate in the Good Neighbor Day festivities. This event has a long standing relationship with Fire and EMS companies within the Downingtown area that support the event with fire and EMS protection throughout the day, of which the activities include a 5, 10 and 15 K run/walk, a canoe race and the traditional fireworks show. The WBFC crew spent approximately 14 hours with 15 volunteers supporting this event and wrapped up around 11:00pm, while also responding to an ambulance assist and Carbon Monoxide alarm activation during the day.
