Stop on Red - Kids Ahead

As we wind down from our summer vacations, and Labor Day fast approaches, let us remember that there will be some big yellow vehicles on the roads and highways, that are carrying very precious cargo. For most of our area the 2018-2019 school year begins and the children will be waiting at the bus stops for their transportation to school. Please pay attention to the young children standing along the roads, watch for the school bus and pay special attention to their lights. When the lights are flashing red you must STOP, until the lights are no longer flashing or turned off. Pennsylvania's School Bus Law states that motorists must stop at least 10 feet away from a school bus that has their red lights flashing and stop arm extended (if equipped). Motorists must stop when they are behind a bus, traveling alongside, meeting the bus or approaching an intersection where a bus is stopped. Do not proceed until the bus has turned off their red flashing lights and the stop arm has retracted and the children have reached a safe place off the road way.
