Today's Wednesday, April 23, 2014, Wild Fire Danger for Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lancaster, Montgomery, and Philadelphia is VERY HIGH.

Fire Danger Class: Very High (Orange)

Chance of Fire Starting: Fires start easily from all causes.

Fire Behavior: All spread is rapid from time of ignition. Fire intensity increases rapidly. Fine fuels may develop high intensity. Heavy fuels may have fire whirlwinds.

Spotting: Short distance spotting is a constant danger. Long distance spotting in heavy fuels.

Fire Control: Difficult. Direct attack at head of fires rarely possible after first few minutes of burning.

Today's Wild Fire Danger for Berks, Lehigh, and Northampton counties is EXTREME

Fire Danger Class: Extreme (Red)

Chance of Fire Starting: Fires start quickly at any excuse.

Fire Behavior: All fires spread furiously and burn intensely.

Spotting: Spotting (long and short) distance will be a constant danger.

Fire Control: Very difficult and may be hazardous. Direct attack rarely possible except immediately after ignition. Fire in conifer stands or heavy slash may be unmanageable with flank attacks, the only safe, effective action.

NOAA has issued the following: All counties in the William Penn Forest District, except Lancaster, is under a Red Flag Warning from 1100-2000 hours today. Lancaster is under a fire weather watch today.
