Intense rain pounded much of the region Tuesday and Wednesday, causing major flooding in West Bradford Township Wednesday afternoon and evening. An estimated 5.5" of rain fell, causing the east branch of the Brandywine Creek to crest at 13.5 feet (USGS). Much of the 322 corridor from Romig Road to Sugarsbridge Road experienced excessive flooding during rush hour traffic, catching some motorists off guard and trapping them.

The West Bradford Volunteers responded to three water rescues calls in the 322 corridor throughout Wednesday evening. No major injuries resulted however numerous vehicles were stranded. As the night progressed the flood waters receded and 322 reopened early Thursday.

Around 0615 Thursday morning the Volunteers, along with Boat 53 (Fame) and 55 Ambulance (Good Fellowship), were alerted for a water rescue on Brandywine Drive in Newlin Township. First arriving units found one subject trapped on the roof of their vehicle in swift moving water. Water Rescue Techs from Station 53, assisted by West Bradford personnel, rescued the victim.

During barricade cleanup, Utility 39 met up with CBS Philly Channel 3 reporter Jenn Bernstein who was on assignment at 322 and Shadyside Road . Jenn interviewed Deputy 39 (J. Fairweather) on the storm and associated emergency responses. The interview can be seen following the link below.
