Winter Storm
December 23/24 - The evening of the 23rd was a quiet one for Station 39, with the members responding to an odor investigation around 2100 hrs. As some of the members returned home for the evening, they could not help but notice that it was beginning to rain. Now with temperatures being in the low 30's, rain is never a sign of a quiet night.... Just before midnight, the tones alerted the members to the intersection of Rt 322 and Roming Rd for an auto accident, and following the voice dispatch the dreaded "use caution due to icy roads".
Rescue Engine 39-3 responded with Utility 39, and on arrival on Rt 322 found cars spread all over a 1/4 mile stretch of roadway. Fortunately there were no injuries in any of the vehicles. Command and Utility 39 held Rt 322 closed until PennDOT was able to treat the roadway. Meanwhile....
Just as it was determined that there were no injuries on 322, the Company was alerted to a report of another accident in the 1500 block of Glenside Road. The Rescue and the Rescue Engine made the response, and after another slippery response, determined the call to be unfounded.
Shortly after clearing those calls, the members received a call from a local towing company requesting assistance with traffic control while they recovered a vehicle. The Command unit and Utility had just cleared Rt 322 and responded to assist. Crews remained on station until 0300 hrs, and responded to no additional emergencies.

Shortly after returning from the auto accident, the Company was dispatched covering West Chester Fire Department to Barn Hill Road in East Bradford for a fire alarm. Engine 39-3 was recalled by Chief 53 (Fame of W.C.) as West Chester cleared their assignment and responded to the call.
