Busy Weekend July 27-29 While the members have not been busy lately with emergencies, we have been taking on an increasing number of special details. Friday, we accepted an invitation to cover the West Chester Fire Department with Rescue-Engine 39-3 while the members of the WCFD attended the annual FIREHOUSE convention in Baltimore Md. Covering with units from Newtown Square (Delco 41) East Brandywine (Station 49) and Kimberton (Station 61) the members ran 1 fire alarm. Engine 3 cleared after the 4 hour shift VERY well fed. Saturday, the members again served in a standby role, assisting the Kimberton Fire Company with coverage for the last night of their carnival. Again Engine 3 did the deed, however this time there were no calls to be had. The members enjoyed the hospitality of Chief Chuck Fields and the Kimberton crew, and returned to West Bradford shortly before midnight. Sunday capped a busy weekend, as Utility 39 attended a rescue day for the Chester County Emergency Services EMT class. The members assisted in a rehab role, checking vitals and providing nice cool drinks. Undaunted by the rain the students completed a full extrication scenario, and the Utility was released just before noon. Thanks to Martin's Corner for hosting the day. A VERY Special visit
July 19 - During tonight's work night at the Marshalton Station, the members received a very special visitor, Leo McCarthy. Ten months ago, Leo was involved in a near fatal accident that he and the members will surely never forget. Leo's jeep was hit head on by and intoxicated driver in a full size SUV. Leo, his fiancee and two strangers who were stranded and in need of a ride were seriously injured. After numerous surgeries and months of rehabilitation, Leo and his family were able to come to the firehouse to meet the people who came to his aid that night. Fire Chief Bill Buttner presented Leo with a courage award, as a testament to everything that Leo has been through. Everyone enjoyed the time spent together, and we look forward to keeping in touch with the family! July 12 - Tonight during weekly drill, some of the members traveled to Faith Baptist Church for some fire prevention. The members explained the role of the fire engines in the township, and demonstrated some of the equipment. After their return, the members did air pack maintenance and some unofficial time trials donning the SCBA.
