EMT Recert and a Building Fire

September 8 - Saturday morning brought day 2 of the EMT Recert class being held at the Poorhouse Road station. Just as the class was breaking for lunch, the tones went out for a dwelling fire on Glenside Road. As there were many accomplished firefighters from around the County attending the class, the Company was able to place Engines 1, 3 and Rescue 39 enroute almost immediately. Once on location initial crews were faced with heavy smoke and a moderate volume of fire inside the residence. Initial crews, under the command of Deputy 21 (Sam Terry) and Rescue Captain 39 (Terry Lewis) were able to make a good stop on the fire, and secondary crews completed extinguishment. Special thanks to Pat Finucane (Deputy 5) for acting as the fire ground safety officer and to Bill Wohl from Station 22 (West Grove) for operating our Rehab sector, which was staffed by students from the Recert class. This allowed personnel from 39 to concentrate on fire operations. This incident was a perfect example of how firefighters from all parts of the County can pull together as one to get a job done.
