On Sunday shortly before 9 PM West Bradford volunteers along with Station 38 (Thorndale) and Ladder 49 (East Brandywine) and Ambulance 46 (Minquas) were alerted for a dwelling fire on Piedmont Dr. crews quickly made the response, and the Chief was advised of a fire in the garage. Due to the location and the distance from a fire hydrant the Chief, requested two additional tankers for a water supply, this brought us Engine 49-5 (East Brandywine) and Tanker 36 (PO-MAR-LIN), along with Rescue 47 (Lionville) for the Rapid Intervention Team.
The 39 crews arrived and made a quick assessment and fire attack, quickly extinguishing the fire. Upon the arrival of the balance of the units, the house was laddered and checked for fire extension and performed ventilation. The Chester County and State Police Fire Marshal made the response for the investigation.
While on the scene, a third party phone call to the Chief advised of an explosion, power outage and tremors in the eastern section of Marshallton, Engine 39-2, Tanker 39, Engine 37-2 (Modena), Tanker 36 made the response to investigate and later found that there had been a PECO transformer problem (explosion, power outage) and had also learned the tremors were the result of a minor earth quake southeast of Downingtown.
The crews from both incidents cleared and returned to stations to prepare for the forecasted snow storm.
