Kidde Recalls Dual Sensor Smoke Alarms Due to Safety Concerns

Please see the Important information below in regards to a smoke alarm recall. According to media and news outlets as well as the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, if you have recently purchased a smoke detector made by Kidde, this detector may not activate and warn you when there is the need. Kidde is recalling approximately 500,000 smoke alarms manufactured and sold between September 2016 and January 2018. The specific models involved are P12010 and P19010 Kidde Dual Sensor (photoelectric and ionization) smoke alarms.

Kidde has announced a recall of dual-sensor smoke alarms due to an error that can compromise the smoke alarm's ability to detect smoke. See the below release from the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the attached links from Kidde & the CPSC for additional information:

Name of product: Kidde dual-sensor (photoelectric and ionization) smoke alarms – models PI2010 and PI9010.

Hazard: A yellow cap left on during the manufacturing process can cover one of the two smoke sensors and compromise the smoke alarm’s ability to detect smoke, posing a risk of consumers not being alerted to a fire in their home.

Remedy: Replace

Recall date: March 21, 2018

Units: About 452,000 in the U.S. (In addition, about 40,000 were sold in Canada.)
