As we all prepare for Memorial Day, the first un-official day of summer, beach vacations, cookouts, etc. let us remember the real meaning of Memorial Day. Let's take some time from our busy schedule to remember and honor those who have served our Country, defending our rights and have not returned to their families to enjoy the vacations, cookouts and all the other things we take for granted or feel entitled to. Memorial Day is believed to have started before the American Civil War and began as Decoration Day, when the women of the fallen soldiers would decorate the graves of their loved ones who died while serving in one of the branches of our Armed Forces. At some point in time Decoration Day was re-named as Memorial Day and was to be celebrated on the last Monday in May. Take some time this weekend during your cookout to Remember and Honor, those who have served our Country and not returned to sit with their families and enjoy the freedom they have fought for.
