Just as the crews were preparing for drill night with a local vendor to inspect SCBA, the company was dispatched for a reported barn fire on Lieds Road, while enroute the CCFR advised Chief 39 that one call was received from the alarm company who called the residence and heard someone yelling fire and an adjacent neighbor called to report a well involved barn. Chief 39 arrived to find heavy fire in an approximate 70 x 100 ft four story barn and requested a 1st alarm Tanker Task Force. The first Engine in the driveway concentrated on protecting the exposures that were attached to the barn and connected to the main dwelling. The second Engine laid a five inch supply line while Engine 38 and Ladder 53 arrived to take the back driveway for protection to the rear of the main dwelling. Tanker 36 arrived in the main driveway as a nurse tanker until a water supply was established. Chief 49 arrived to take water supply and in short time had the tanker shuttle in operation. The companies remained on scene until approximately 3:30 am. as the barn was just filled with approximately 1000 bales of hay. Chief 35 arrived and supplied us with approximately 30 gallons of foam for use on the hay that was removed from the barn by an excavator supplied by Highland Orchards.
