Our Training Never Stops

No single emergency response is exactly the same. New technologies and building materials demand that emergency responders continually adapt their methods to meet their community challenges. The West Bradford volunteers recently started a training series to address one of the community's biggest challenges; water rescues.

On Thursday members of the department completed the first awareness level course called Water Rescue for the First Responder. This classroom-only training established the skill foundation for the follow on classes to build on. During the fall and winter months the volunteers will take Water Rescue and Emergency Response and Ice Rescue and Emergency Response to complete the series. Both of these hands-on classes will allow West Bradford's members to perform and perfect the skills taught. Many of our volunteers have already taken this training series.

The importance of this training series can be found in West Bradford's slogan; "Between the Brandywines". Along with the many ponds and creeks in the township, both branches of the Brandywine River flow through the township. Every year these rivers spill their banks and sometimes take citizens by surprise, such as the events in May 2014 (see link below). The West Bradford Volunteers have stood and will always stand ready to respond to water emergencies in the West Bradford or surrounding communities.
