On February 20 & 21 2016, two members of the West Bradford Fire Co attended an Ice Rescue & Emergency Response Training Course, instructed by White Cap Water Rescue Training. This training was hosted by the Wissahickon Fire Co, Ambler PA. The first day of the course the crew traveled to Ambler to attend an 8 hour session which included classroom instruction at the Wissahickon Fire Co and an indoor pool session that was held at the Ambler YMCA. The second day the crew traveled to an ice covered pond in Hellam Twp, York County PA, to participate in the outdoor portion of the training. This session consisted of being outdoors on the ice all day, the weather for the day was 39 degrees with a light wind and rain and an ice thickness on the pond of approximately 6 inches. The crews performed various rescue techniques, needed to assist in the rescue of someone trapped on the ice or that has fallen through the ice. In addition to the West Bradford crew, there were students from the Friendship Fire Co, Phoenixville PA; Upper Salford Fire Co, Harleysville PA and the Wissahickon Fire Co, Ambler PA. We would like to Thank the Wissahickon Fire Co for hosting the training and White Cap Water Rescue for the instruction of the course.
